Portfolio assignments

The portfolio will consist of four assignments: The first three assignments must be approved before the final project description can be submitted.

 

All assignments shall be submitted in Fronter. Check the online information about submission in fronter <http://www.uio.no/studier/emner/hf/imk/MEVIT4000/h14/submit-your-assignment.html>.

 

Nordic Media students must write their assignments in English. Other students may write in English or a Scandinavian language as they wish.

 

1. Assignment - reading list

As explained under the heading syllabus <http://www.uio.no/studier/emner/hf/imk/MEVIT4000/h12/pensumliste/> , students shall compose their own reading list using the proposed literature. The reading list shall be written in APA or Chicago-style.

 

Deadline: 19. september at 1400. (note the new deadline)

 

2. Assignment - one page project outline

After the intensive writing seminar, students shall submit a 1 page outline of their master thesis idea.

3. Assignment - discussion of a master thesis

Choose a master thesis. Give a short description (2-3 pages) of the thesis including its research question, theory, methods, findings, and conclusion. Assess the thesis. We will discuss some selected theses in the lecture on 24. september, and some of you will give brief presentations to the group. You will then hand in your final assignment two days later.

 

Deadline for oral version: 24. september in class.

 

Deadline for written version: 26. september at 1400.

 

4. Assigmnent - The project description

The project proposal should be 5 pages and must include:

 

*             Working title.

*             Theme or area of interest.

*             Research questions and/or hypotheses.

*             Information about empirical data

*             Methods.

*             Theoretical or scientific context.

 

Supervision for the project description will be given in smaller groups after the intensive writing seminar. Each group can expect to have 2-3 meetings with supervisor, but are encouraged to have more meetings on their own. Students are expected to present and respond to draft project proposals in the groups.

 

Deadline: 4. december at 1400.

 

Getting a supervisor

 

When the course is passed and the project description approved, the Department will appoint a supervisor to you. They do this as quickly as they can.
