The project also follows up on Byøkologisk Plan, also known as the Urban Ecology Plan (2011-2026) made by Oslo Municipality. The target 5.1 was especially relevant for the project: “Oslo´s goal is to protect and enhance biodiversity”. Bykuben is the project's main partner.

Context
Laws and regulations are not enough to change people's personal mindsets, which is an important aspect of protecting and conserving biodiversity. First when people know about nature's needs in the city, then they can help it thrive. A lot of improvements to city parks are for the benefit of humans. We want to address the easy changes that can be made to make parks beneficial for a larger variety of species.
Project Description
An investigative approach to find out what intervention is the most efficient in spreading awareness about biodiversity to the users of the park. Through a pilot project with physical urban interventions and thought-provoking information, we aimed to make people more aware of biodiversity in Oslo.
Outcomes
It manifested as a “Park Appreciation Week” event in Kampen Park with several interventions occurring both inside and outside the park, from November 30 to December 5. The interventions included a guided walk, a “Dream Tree” installation, signs in the park, a lesson plan proposal for Klimahuset and a stand at the library, as well as social media promotion. They aimed to target as many people as possible through education-based awareness. Following their implementation, the success of the interventions has been measured and analyzed according to people’s responses to them. These findings, along with a package of downloadable content, will be made available for environmental organizations and those who can become stewards of the “Park Appreciation Week” sentiment and model.
