The Saami have been treated very poorly in Norway, and it is not much better in Sweden, if you listen to Swedish Sofia Jannoks music.
Her lyrics are strong, and the same is a lot of her musical material. She promotes the Saami history and cause through her singer-songwriter-tradition.
At the same time, she is a part of the modern, musical expression, and you can call this popular music as well as folk music.
Therefore, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra wants to take her music and make it into something we all can share, without it being stripped of its purpose and character.
The Saami deserves a bigger space in Norwegian music, and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra shall try to give its small contribution to this cause in the collaboration with Sofia Jannok.
