Antimicrobial resistance: “Wake-up call” or “Dream on”?

Antibiotic resistance is more than a threat - it is an inevitable reality. Despite Norway being recognized for its low incidence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), it is essential to acknowledge the significant efforts behind maintaining this status.

AMR has profound consequences for individuals and healthcare systems, requiring substantial investments to sustain this protection. But how long can we realistically keep this threat at bay?

In this symposium, we will address the spread of AMR between animals, humans, and the environment—a critical factor in understanding this complex challenge.

We will also examine the patient perspective in a world where antibiotics no longer work. How does the healthcare system manage evacuated patients with resistant microbes from the war in Ukraine? And what are the long-term consequences of antibiotic use? During the symposium, we will also gain insight into the extensive efforts made to keep resistant microbes out of Norwegian food production.

This event is organized by the NORSE and RESISFORCE networks in collaboration with the AMR Centre at NIPH.
