Want to understand Norwegian Working Culture?

The Norwegian working environment is full of social norms and unwritten rules. The aim of this workshop is to provide participants with interesting and fun, but also important and useful insights into such norms and rules. For both non-Norwegian researchers and Norwegian staff at UiO, the workshop is highly recommended!

As a newcomer to Norway and at a new workplace, you might find yourself not having a clue as to what is happening around you. Join this workshop and find out!

Objectives

Can you name the 4 most important values in Norwegian society, which also apply to Norwegian working culture? Do you know the difference between the way professors and students talk to each other in Norway and in your home country? Have you noticed that Norwegians have a lot of meetings at work and leave at 4pm every day?

We hope that this workshop will give practical insights into what you can expect in Norway and help you to improve your skills in communicating with your Norwegian colleagues and leaders. It will also address the Norwegian view on "work-life balance" and how Norwegians socialize (and how they don't!), thereby helping you integrate into Norwegian society in general.

In addition to non-Norwegian researchers and staff, we seek Norwegian participants who can provide and represent a Norwegian perspective in group tasks and who want to learn about how non-Norwegians may perceive Norwegians at work.

Target group

International researchers and staff at the University of Oslo who have recently arrived in Norway as well as Norwegian employees who work in an international environment.
