About the data protection officer

The data protection officer is employed at UiO, but works independently. This means that the data protection officer is not subject to the management's instructional authority when performing their role.

The tasks of the data protection officer are to:

  • assist the UiO with information and advice in their processing of personal data, check compliance with the privacy legislation and point out any breaches of the regulations if this is discovered.
  • assist individuals who are registered with personal information at UiO, with safeguarding their rights.
  • cooperate with and act as a point of contact for the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (DPA).
  • on request provide advice on the assessment of privacy implications and control its implementation
