KD-positions

The KD-positions from the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research (Kunnskapsdepartementet) are the MN Faculty's largest and most important strategic resource. These continuously running positions are used to strengthen the MN Faculty's position as an international research faculty.

Main principles for awarding KD-positions

The KD-positions will be used in accordance with UiO's and MN's adopted overall strategies. MN's total portfolio of KD positions (max. 20% postdoctoral fellows at each Department) will, to a limited extent, be tied to applications for external funding.

The positions can support:

  • Excellent research
  • EU challenges
  • Gender balance (more women in leading positions)

Own contribution in Applications

KD-positions are used as own contribution in applications in the following cases:

  • SFF/SFI/FME centers - the number of positions will depend on MN's budget and will be assessed for each call

  • ERC-winners who must finance their main salary from the ERC funds - 1 position (more information)
  • ERC projects with significant experimental costs can be assigned a KD-position upon application
  • Joint effort in the FRIPRO call
  • Nordic SFF and large, nationally coordinated projects - 1 position (only if MN is the host and has a female leader (main responsibility))
  • The startup of the position(s) must be set in agreement with the Department and the Faculty.

Horizon Europe incentives

Collaborative projects

The MN Faculty wants to stimulate multiple collaborative project applications in Horizon Europe (participants from at least three different institutions and at least three different countries). An MN researcher who applies for a collaborative project as coordinator (project lead) can receive one KD-position, see guidelines.

MSCA-PF projects (European Postdoctoral Fellowship)

All MSCA-PF winners of the type European Postdoctoral Fellowship with MN as host institution are offered one additional year funded by MN (one year of a KD-position), provided that they have applied for 24 months funding and can be employed in a postdoctoral fellowship position.

NB! In the case of individual assessment, the Faculty approval will be based on the recommendation of the Head of Department.
