Notes from fourMs lab meeting, 28.01.2020

  1. Lab Equipment:
    1. The door has been fixed, though there is a known issue where the alarm will go off for 3 minutes at 11pm.
    2. Suit washing procedure: the green bags should be used to receive clean suits and send the dirty ones for washing. Dirty suits will be collected once per week on Thursdays and clean suits will be returned at the same time. An inventory will be done now and special requests (e.g., for particular sizes) should be addressed to Kayla.
  2. The lab has been cleaned and lab members should check the notice on the wall for the new lab cleaning procedures. Kayla has noted that no food/drinks are allowed in the lab apart from drinks with lids. Everything in the labelled boxes should be returned when you are done; if you want to keep the things you are using at the moment together, then you should ask for your own labelled box. The lab should be largely self-contained at the moment with equipment such as microphones and music stands. Lab members should notify Kayla if they need to remove something from the lab or if they need something else from storage.
  3. Winter troubleshooting results discussion:
    1. Qualisys cameras should be working now (apart from 3 cameras that have been sent for repair). Lab members should tell Kayla right away if there are more problems.
    2. The computer running QTM should be kept in airplane mode at all times (off the internet).
    3. Audio: there is a new audio PC and the old Mac has been moved to sit where the processing computer was previously. There is a plan to get a new processing computer soon.
    4. The Motu is not currently working (it produces errors if plugged in but turned off). We discussed possible replacement solutions.
      1. One possible solution is to use a single sound card (the RME) plus a breakout box for handling in/out audio streams. Alexander suggested bringing the SSL from the portal – this would be the quickest and cheapest solution and we decided to try this for now.
      2. As an alternative we also discussed purchasing a mixing desk so that people could have their own presets, though this could be more complicated for people to learn. It was decided that we would consider this possibility later (as it would require application for funding and a longer wait time).
    5. The talk back system (Big Knob) makes noise when it is on and causes feedback when you don’t turn it off (this will be fixed). We discussed whether it should be replaced, but those who use it say that aren’t really bothered by the noise.
  4. Coming Soon
    1. A new processing computer is coming.
    2. The mocap server will be merged with the other RITMO server, expect more details and a timeline soon.
    3. The portable equipment reservation system is also coming soon.
    4. VDI: the timeout issue with QTM has been fixed. Everyone should have platinum+ access and functioning QTM.
    5. Eye tracking: we are likely to proceed with purchasing four pairs of Pupil Labs headsets, but are still checking on some features (especially related to how well they would synchronize with OptiTrack and QTM; it sounds like synchronization with EEG would be ok).
