Meeting Minutes

  • Logistics
    • Lab and Covid Status
      • Waiting on direction from faculty for clarification
    • VDI Upgrades
      • Speed issues should be resolved. Kayla is in control of RITMO related software so upgrades and additions should be easier. Base image which is the operating system, security settings, and software like Office, Matlab, and Python is controlled by IT. Settings like the lock screen are related to security cannot be changed. Any updates to the base image will take a bit of time but work with Kayla if they are needed.

  • What's new in Research Data Management
    • Short update on drive cleanup
      • Data slowly migrating to Felles drive. HF-mocap drive should no longer be used as an active drive. Folders that have moved will be kept for backup and marked as such. Documentation process is slow going but progressing.
    • New University resources + future tools
      • Changes to storage drive system (lagringshotell) coming spring/summer 2021. This systematic change will result in faster speeds for upload and download. Additionally, it frees us from the file group limit which has caused problems especially for non-windows users when connecting to the drive. You have to do nothing, and Kayla will update with any downtime or other interruptions.
      • FAIR@UiO project started November2020 and is working with IBM Spectrum Discovery Tool to mine metadata from files. This software will mine information from files such as resolution, time, size, etc. It will need custom information for the qualitative components of metadata tagging. RITMO is a pilot site so should get some beta versions this year. The end goal for the full product is January 2022. More to come as this starts here.
      • DMP Templates
        • UiO released a DMP template at the end of 2021. It is missing some GDPR stuff so if you choose to use that, make sure to add what is needed.
        • NSD has a template that is really easy to use. Kayla recommends this if you need a data management plan. It can be linked to your project within the NSD website and also exported for following your data on the drive.
      • More training and classes will be offered by the University this year. We are also looking at having a seminar at RITMO. Kayla will send out information on classes as they become available.
  • Individual reports on data management
    • Rounded so everyone could update on their progress with data management. Slow progress being made and documentation has been partially completed by most. Many people have started but not completed DMPs. Missing data located from various legacy storage devices so almost all of the data is now on the felles drive. Links and templates have been helpful.
    • General advice when looking through old data is to make sure to document well so your future self will know what is going on.
    • Webpages are being updated and are a great resource. Kayla is available for meetings.
  • Group Discussion: Lab Meeting Optimization
    • Was not time for this. As a result of ARK survey, we want to make sure these meetings are as effective and useful as possible. Additionally, due to attendance fluctuations, Kayla is spending a lot of time repeating information from meetings. Brainstorming ideas about content, structure, scheduling, etc can be emailed or discussed at next meeting.
