Head of division

Head of division is expected to contribute to meeting the strategic goals of the institute in collaboration with other leaders, colleagues, and partners. The head of division has a comprehensive responsibility for the Division’s activities. Moreover, the head of division is responsible for managing the division’s staff and the division’s operating funds, as well as the ongoing systematic work to ensure health, safety and the environment in the workplace. The head of division shall lead according to the UiO’s HR policies and UiO’s objectives of being a workplace that facilitates the employees’ possibilities to realize their full potentials in a good working and learning environment.

Research and teaching activities

  • The head of division shall follow up on research and teaching activities as agreed with the head of department

HR matters and health, safety and the environment in the workplace

  • HR management and following up on HR matters related to research group leaders in the division, engineers or other direct subordinates.  
  • Tasks pertaining to planning manpower, job descriptions and recruitment to internally financed positions
  • Responsibility for systematic health, safety and the environment work in the division, according to current procedures and regulations
  • Ensuring that the use of the division’s areas is decided and agreed upon, including responsibility for clearly defining areas that are not allocated to a designated research group
  • Recommend, or advise against, the approval of applications for affiliation

Economy and Performance Management

  • Contribute with suggestions to the Department’s budget, annual plan and annual report.
  • Approve of the allocation of the division’s internal operating funds
  • Approve invoices and finance matters

Information

  • Responsibility for information flow and follow-ups within the division, in order to secure the communication of information to the division’s employees
  • Coordinate initiatives from the division’s employees towards the Head of Department
  • Responsibility for making sure that the division delivers on  required tasks Furthermore, the head of division may be asked to manage other leadership tasks delegated by the Head of department.  The head of division participates in the Department’s management group.

Authority and system roles

  • Budget management of the division
  • Approval of the division’s invoices in Basware invoice system
  • Manager role in the HR portal for staff management: follow up of working hours, evaluation of and approval of travel expense refunds and reimbursements, approval of requests for absence from employees who are reporting to the head of division
