Happy Easter from the Office of the Dean

The Office of the Dean will provide a recap of the semester so far, the ongoing activities at MED and external collaborations. Save the date for a big meeting on Global Health at Domus Medica on 20 June, and a meeting on Ukraine in the Aula in Oslo city centre on 14 September. The Office of the Dean wishes everyone a happy Easter holiday.

Time flies when you have an exciting job, and now it’s already Easter. We at the Office of the Dean have had some busy, interesting and enjoyable months as the new head team for the Faculty of Medicine (MED). Thank you for all the great meetings and input we have received from you so far. We are very impressed by both the breadth, depth and commitment we see in our large faculty. It's easy to be proud of a faculty with so many talented staff and students!

Non-stop activity at MED

We would still like to meet up with you at various occasions, and as you know, we continuously invite you to provide input and collaborations. We are now actively working on a number of studies-related matters as well as research and innovation in collaboration with our various departments, units and the faculty administration. At the same time, our educational programmes, research programmes and research support are fully up and running, and extensive work is being done within the fields of HR, finance and communication.

New areas for MED

We are also actively upgrading the Faculty of Medicine facilities, including in the Life Sciences Building, Oslo University Hospital, Ahus and the new premises for the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences. We are also participating in a number of meetings outside MED, including with the other faculties at UiO, the hospitals and other institutions in the region and at local, regional and national cooperation meetings.

Constant engagement on political processes

A number of political developments are also underway that are important for both the university and the Norwegian health sector. There have been a number of reports that we need to consider, for example with regards to health professionals, women’s health, skills development, personalised medicine, public health and programmes of professional studies – and more reports will follow.
In addition, we live in a world with major global challenges in terms of both war and climate change, which greatly impacts the public health across national borders. We will be highlighting the latter topics in two large events open to everyone at MED – save the date for 20 June for a big meeting at Domus Medica on the topic of global health, which has a significant impact on all of us, and 14 September for a meeting on the topic of Ukraine in the beautiful Aula in the city center.

Wishing everyone a happy, well-deserved Easter holiday

It has been a pleasure to embark on this journey at the Dean’s Office and work in collaboration with you, and we are all excited to continue this work and see what unfolds. Thank you all for the hard work and dedication to achieving our common goal. We wish you all some very well-deserved days off over Easter. Happy Easter!

Sincerely – Hanne, Jan, Grete, Magnus and Eli
