We would love to meet with more of you

In each newsletter Dean Hanne Flinstad Harbo provides an insight into what the Dean's Office is working on and what is happening at the Faculty. We have now visited all our main units and obtained an overview of the Faculty. We would like to meet more of you. Please feel free to invite us to your department or section. Preferably at a time when you are holding regular meetings so that we can meet more people. Please contact us!

Otherwise, we are working a lot with our Inland Campus at the moment, improving our study programmes and developing our post-doctoral and PhD programmes.

Inernational Woman's Day

On the occasion of the International Women's Day on 8 March, Hilde Bondevik and Kari Nyheim Solbrække have written a post for the Medicine Blog in norwegian for readers to reflect on. Should the health service treat women and men equally? When is it right, and when is it wrong? And what about those who do not identify as either?

On International Women's Day I have recalled the story about researcher Rosalind Franklin on MED's social media platforms. She helped with the discovery of the structure of DNA without being recognised for her work until many years after her death. "The Dark Lady of DNA" should stand as an example for scientists like us. She played a key role in the pioneering discovery of the DNA molecule. Women are needed in all roles in society and getting to where we are today is not something that has happened automatically.”

Thank you for your contribution to our Open Day

Our Open Day is also being held this week and the UiO will be welcoming 3,000 students who we hope will choose to study with us. Committed students, lecturers and study consultants from our health management and health economics, clinical nutrition and medicine programmes of study will be contributing with mini-lectures and information on the stand.

We know from previous events that 80% of those attending report that they received good, useful information from the students they spoke to. More than 70% of them wanted to study at the UiO after attending our Open Day and the majority of those who did not initially want to study at the UiO changed their minds after our Open Day. Thank you very much for all your efforts on behalf of MED and the UiO.

Yours sincerely, Hanne
