Dear all employees,

On Friday, there will be a grand celebration of International Women's Day at MED with important topics on the agenda.

The Center for Global Health invites you to Domus Bibliotheca at 2 PM to pay tribute to two extraordinary women at the event: Global Health: Why does the world need more women like Sigrun and Gro? (in Norwegian) UiO, Norad and Women in Global Health Norway are collaborating on this meeting, where we will have the opportunity to meet Gro Harlem Brundtland and Sigrun Møgedal.

Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mette Marit, Director of Norad Bård Vegar Solhjell, Special Advisor at the European Institute of Peace in Brussels Hilde F. Johnson, and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health and Care Services and Goodwill Ambassador, WGH Norway Cathrine Marie Lofthus will also participate in the event.

As a doctor, politician, and aid worker, Sigrun Møgedal made a remarkable impact in the early 2000s through her efforts at the WHO and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria. She also served as an advisor to UNAIDS and was appointed as Norway's HIV/AIDS Ambassador in 2005.

Norway's first female Prime Minister, Gro Harlem Brundtland, gained international recognition when she led the UN Special Commission on Environment and Development (the Brundtland Commission) and introduced the concept of sustainable development. From 1988 to 2003, she also served as the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), where she emerged as a prominent leader in the fight against both the tobacco industry and infectious diseases.

With their pioneering work, these two women have inspired and paved the way for new generations of women to participate in decision-making and governance in global health. We look forward to meeting and celebrating these remarkable women. Please tune in to the livestream if you are unable to attend in person.

We also welcome you to join us for lunch and a focus on abortion and democracy at Domus Bibliotheca at 12 PM: Reproductive rights under attack: Democracy without the right to decide over one's own body? (event in norwegian).

Marianne Natvig has written the article "What is menopause? for us on the Medicine Blog in honor of International Women's Day. This is a topic that has been taboo for far too long.

See you!

Best regards, Hanne
