Collaboration – local, national and international

Dean Hanne Flinstad Harbo talks about the important collaboration the faculty has with the health deans at the BOTT universities and with other health deans in The Guild. Good collaboration in all forms, both internally and externally, is an important prerequisite for research and education at the faculty.

Dear colleagues,
The strike at UiO didn’t last that long, so it is back to business as usual and the run-in to end of semester for all of us. Remember that there are also many Pride events at UiO in the coming days.

Collaboration in all forms is important for the Faculty of Medicine (MED). For example, good internal and external collaborative relationships are crucial for our PhD students and other researchers.

Last week, an impressive number of doctorates were conferred at our faculty. This took place during the formal ceremony UiO holds four times a year in our magnificent Aula (LinkedIn). All our PhD candidates and academic supervisors are involved in small and large research networks, which collaborate closely to achieve these research results.

Collaboration with the BOTT universities is important for MED

Nationally, the collaboration between the universities of Bergen, Oslo, Trondheim and Tromsø, the so-called BOTT universities, is especially important for us at MED.

For example, we broadly collaborate on common challenges and opportunities in the education of doctors and in health research. Last week, the annual national BOTT dean meeting (LinkedIn) was held in Tromsø.

Among the topics we discussed were the use of AI in teaching with a panel of students, research education, research in the primary health service, the role of our faculties in national emergency preparedness – and tighter economic frameworks for universities.

MED also collaborates with health deans in The Guild.

Recently, I have had the pleasure of attending a meeting for The Guild Health Deans. The Guild is an alliance of 22 universities in Europe, where UiO has long played a key role. We discussed various European partnership models, the use of AI in research, Horizon Europe’s strategy for 2025-27, and the ambition of a European One Health Policy.

Most of you will soon be taking a well-deserved summer holiday, good luck with the final push of the semester!

Kind regards, Hanne
