Interview with Election Committee Chairman Hagen about this autumn’s Dean Election

We are headed for an exciting election this autumn. MED-nytt has interviewed Election Committee Chairman Terje P. Hagen about the work on this year’s Dean Election and about the process leading up to the start of the election. Hagen serves as head of department at Helsam.

ERC Starting Grant awarded to Helene Knævelsrud

In her new project, FINALphagy, Knævelsrud will study how autophagy is turned off in the body. One of the aims of her research is that it should be applicable in the development of new forms of cancer treatment.

Will study Alzheimer's disease in a new EU project

Evandro Fei Fang will lead UiO's contribution to an extensive research project and network, financed through Horizon Europe. The goal is to develop a new medicine using artificial intelligence.

Nursing science at UiO is ranked 47th in this year’s Shanghai Ranking

Nursing Science at the Institute of Health and Society at the University of Oslo is ranked number 47 in this year’s Shanghai Ranking – 2022 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. 

Ragnhild Hellesø, professor and head at the Department of Nursing Science, believes the high ranking is a result of long-term, important and socially relevant research and an active and creative research environment at the department, national and international research projects and collaboration, and educational programmes that meet expertise requirements in society. • Award announcements: Keep up-to-date with the annual cycle for award announcements, which is updated on an ongoing basis.
  • The deadline for nominations for the 2022 Heart Research Award is 30 August.
• The faculty has a MSCA postdoctoral fellowships initiative with an application deadline of 14 September. Application support material has been developed and interested academic supervisors and researchers can contact our research advisors at EEF for further information.

• ERC Starting Grant: The European Research Council (ERC) will soon launch the 2023 Starting Grant call. Deadline 25 October 2023.

• ERC Consolidator Grant: The European Research Council (ERC) has announced the deadline for the 2023 Consolidator Grant. Deadline 2 February 2023.

• ERC Synergy Grant: The ERC Synergy Grant (SyG) is for 2 - 4 PIs and their teams bringing together complementary skills in order to jointly address ambitious research problems in any field of research. Deadline: 8 November 2022.

• UMED: Cochrane Interactive Learning and Covidence. Do you plan to create systematic knowledge summaries? If so, we recommend the online Cochrane Interactive Learning course and the Covidence tool. Here you can read about the content of both of them, and how to gain access.
• 1 September Open seminar: Complexity in Action. Professor Trish Greenhalgh will receive the Honorary Doctorate from the University of Oslo. She will participate in an Open Seminar at Centre for Sustainable Healthcare Education (SHE) on Complexity in Action on 1 September 13.30-17.30.
• 2 September Annual Festivities 2022. UiO’s Annual Festivities and birthday will be celebrated in the University’s Aula from 18:00 to 19:30. There will be an Annual Party Ceremony in the Aula, with the conferring of honorary doctorates, the presentation of prizes and the King’s Gold Medal, speeches by the rector, honorary doctors and the head of the Student Parliament, as well as musical performances. • 2 September Honorary doctor lectures at MED in The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters between 12:00–14:30, Professor Trish Greenhalgh and Professor Carolyn Lam will be appointed as honorary doctors at UiO and will give lectures

   

5 September, General election meeting.

Listen to the candidates running for the position of Dean debate between 14:00 and 16:00 in the large auditorium at the University Hospital. We would like to see you at the meeting, but it is also possible to participate on Zoom. Feel free to prepare questions for the candidates in advance..

• 7. september 17:00-18:00 in the Store auditorium at DM. Open information meeting about UiO Campus South for medical students. In the autumn of 2023, 10 medical students will start their 5th year of academic study at the newly established UiO Campus South at the Hospital of Southern Norway. The information meeting is particularly relevant for module 4. There will be presentations about various parts of the study plan and practical matters by: Vice-Dean Elin Olaug Rosvold,Head of Education Knut Lundin and Head of Education Magnus Løberg.
• 

  8. september SHEwill host the Student Conference. For the first time, a student conference is being organised with a focus on health and sustainability. Sustainable development is an overarching goal for global social development. In order to achieve this, good health is essential. This conference will place sustainability and health in context by taking a closer look at the following topics: 1) Food security, 2) Health innovation, 3) Health and climate. Everyone is welcome!

• 8 September Welcome to the third Life Science Growth House innovation hangout – a new meeting place for academia and industry. This hangout is a collaboration with The Life Science Cluster. Topic: Competence in and beyond academia.

• 22 September Research Expo at the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology. Bacteria and antibiotics, food and sustainability, iron lungs, strength tests, pills and X-rays. Welcome to Medical Theme Day!
• Frampeik in Oslo 2022. Frampeik is the annual research conference for Norwegian medical and dentistry students. Time and place: 14-16 October.

IMB: Discovery of a gene that can reduce brain damage in newborns av Cecilie Bakken Høstmark. 
The gene helps to repair brain damage caused by a lack of oxygen during birth, Norwegian researchers found.
