Editorial: The working environment is changing
After two years of living with the pandemic, working remotely and having to adjust to major changes to how we work and collaborate, it is now important to take the time to reflect on and discuss how it has affected us, our jobs, the way in which we collaborate and our work community.
All employees will receive the ARK survey via e-mail on Tues day 1 February. I would like to encourage everyone to take ten minutes to respond to the survey! The survey represents an important contribution to our shared working environment, writes Acting Faculty Director Hans Mossin in his editorial.
Innovation
Launch of the Life Science Growth House
The Life Science Growth House launches on 17 February. From the end of February, the new innovation unit at the University of Oslo, the Life Science Growth House, will have an open-door policy for researchers and students who need help to mature their concepts at an early stage, as well as managers and administrative employees who support innovative researchers and existing and new partners alike.

New opportunities for innovative researchers at the University of Oslo
EIT Health Scandinavia is now expanding to include the University of Oslo as an associate member. The membership will be coordinated by the newly established innovation unit, the Life Science Growth House, which launches on 17 February. Startups linked to the University of Oslo can already apply to the large selection of open calls for proposals to accelerate international growth, create new business and access funding.

SHE offers study programmes in sustainable healthcare
Sustainable healthcare education is the aim of SHE, the Faculty’s Centre for Sustainable Healthcare Education. Two elective courses for students at the Faculty of Medicine start on 17 January. If you have not yet used all of your holiday entitlement from 2021, you need to apply to carry it over by 31 January.

- The University of Oslo has reduced its energy consumption by 25 percent in just four years. Buildings closed due to COVID-19, as well as self-generated heating and energy are some of the reasons why the University of Oslo has achieved its ambitious energy consumption targets. - UiO:Life Sciences: Apply for student summer projects. Up to 40 student summer projects running between April and September 2022 could receive funding. Students admitted to a bachelor’s, master’s or relevant programme of professional study at the University of Oslo can apply. The deadline is 1 February.
The Anders Jahre Awards for Medical Research: Absolutely final deadline: Submit your nomination for the upcoming Anders Jahre Awards for Medical Research, which are given for outstanding medical research and results in the Nordic countries. There are two awards: The Anders Jahre Award for Medical Research and the Anders Jahre Award for Young Medical Researchers under the age of 40. Read more (in Norwegian). Announcement of RELIGHT at the Centre for Global Health: The Centre is accepting applications for one additional Research ExceLlence and Innovation in Global HealTh (RELIGHT) project for the 2022-2024 period. Deadline 18 February: RELIGHT – Research ExceLlence and Innovation in Global HealTh.- Throne-Holst grants - human nutrition and related sciences. The foundation awards approximately 1-2 million SEK to researchers annually. The next deadline is 1 March
- University of Oslo: Apply to become a merited teacher. The merit scheme is intended to promote quality in education at the University of Oslo. All permanent academic staff with their primary position at the University of Oslo are eligible to apply. Read more (in Norwegian). Deadline: 15 March.
- MED: ERC Consolidator Grant The European Research Council (ERC) has announced the deadline for the 2022 Consolidator Grant. Deadline: 17 March.
- University of Oslo: Who deserves the HSE Prize? Every year, the HSE Award is presented to an individual or team at the University of Oslo that has made a significant contribution to the working environment at their unit or at the University of Oslo as a whole. Do you know anyone who deserves the prize? Submit your proposal by 15 February.

The first course at the School of Health Innovation provides researchers, PhD candidates and postdoctoral fellows with the tools to turn their research into innovation in medicine or clinical practice. The application deadline is 6 February.- The University of Oslo Helpdesk will deliver a number of digital courses throughout the 2022 spring semester. Each course will be delivered multiple times throughout the semester. You can find an overview of courses, as well as registration details and detailed course information here. The University of Oslo Helpdesk has also created a newsletter that is issued once or twice each month and contains information about upcoming courses during the month. If you want to stay up-to-date with course dates and new courses that will be held, you can sign up to the newsletter via the online form.

Researchers at the University of Oslo are currently developing a seasonal vaccine against both influenza and COVID-19. The vaccine will provide much better protection than the current vaccines.
Institute of Clinical Medicine: Uncover the hidden patterns of the immune system with artificial intelligence by Elin Martine Doeland. The immune system stores vast amounts of information about health and illness. Researchers are now trying to interpret this information using artificial intelligence. Such knowledge could pave the way for new opportunities within diagnostics and treatment.
IMB: Many veterinarians struggle with suicidal thoughts by Cecilie Bakken Høstmark. Of the veterinarians who report having experienced serious suicidal thoughts, over half believe that their work is to blame for the difficulties they experienced.
