In his project, Greiff will attempt to understand the rules of antibody-antigen binding,and how this knowledge can be used to develop effective therapeutic antibodies and vaccines.

Congratulations to Markus Dines Knudsen who won the election! He is the new, permanent representative on the Faculty Board for temporarily employed academic staff, including temporarily appointed adjunct professors, throughout 2024. Lise Mørkved Helsingen and Lene Lunde have been elected as deputy representatives.

Kristina Haugaa has received a research grant together with the University of Minnesota to understand more about the heart disease called Lamin A/C cardiomyopathy.

Management meetings

Management Forum: Overview of meeting dates. The next meeting is Tuesday, 23 January. Agenda items and documents may be submitted until 12:00 on the last Thursday before the meeting. Here are the minutes from the previous meeting.

University Board meetings in 2023. The meetings are live-streamed and open to anyone who would like to attend. The next meeting takes place on 15 December.

    • The Centre for Research-based Innovation’s (SFI V) call for applications will be released soon! Potential applicants from MED should make their interest known at their department/institute as soon as possible. The Research Council of Norway’s deadline is expected to be in April/May 2024. Medisinbloggen: Health work under bombardment in Norwegian by Erik Fosse. Israel’s war against Hamas is destroying all the hospitals in Gaza. I have worked in and with the hospitals there for 30 years, and have made many good friends and colleagues. They are now trying to help the injured, but find themselves in an impossible and dangerous situation.

 

Sår med kreftKlinmed: More serious skin cancer in organ transplant patients (link in Norwegian) “We have seen that organ transplant recipients have more tumors and spread of cancer than others with the same type of skin cancer. These patients need to thoroughly protect themselves from the sun and check their skin regularly,” says Petter Gjersvik.

 

Medisinbloggen: Resistance without borders – when antibiotics do not work in Norwegian by Kristian Tonby, Erik Gerhardsen Formanek and Else Liv Quist-Paulsen. The war in Ukraine is brutal. Hospitals in Norway are receiving patients evacuated from Ukraine. We were not prepared for the high incidence of infections involving multidrug-resistant bacteria.
