What do you do when every single theoretical physicist has their own model that can describe the universe, but you want to find out which one is correct? The answer: Develop a computer tool that can efficiently test theories against huge data sets. The GAMBIT software runs on supercomputers worldwide, and starting from next year, development is led by UiO.
UiO:Life Science will fund educational summer research projects for 40 students between April and September 2021 for students currently enrolled in a bachelor, master or relevant professional degree program at UiO. Forty students have gained work experience from a research project with a scholarship from UiO:Life Science this summer. The summer projects concluded with an exhibition and selection of the best academic and popular science poster.
After being corona-delayed by six months, it was time to celebrate the first graduates from the innovation program SPARK Norway. The graduation of a total of nine projects was marked with the presentation of diplomas and presentations given by all project managers, also called SPARKees.
The new CompSci doctoral initiative has now announced its first 16 PhD positions across the entire Faculty.
The new building for chemistry, pharmacy and life sciences will be Norway's largest building for research and higher education. Nuria Pereira Banzon is one of 41 students who received a grant from UiO:Life Science to work on a life science research project this summer. She is working on the project ‘How impaired brain garbage recycling and bad sleep affect memory?’ which is headed by Associate Professor Evandro Fei Fang at Akershus University Hospital.
Gerd Nilsen becomes a new business representative on the board of UiO:Life Science from June 1. Gerd works as Senior Project Manager in Thermo Fisher Scientific.
