Norwegian Science Week
Research is often associated with long and somewhat lonely days at the laboratory or in front of a computer. Many people do not know exactly what it means to be a researcher. However, they can find out at Norwegian Science Week (only in Norwegian) 19 – 30 September.
This is a yearly event organized by the Norwegian Research Council. Here researchers emerge from laboratories and offices to show their research to the population of Oslo at the Science Expo at the University Square (only in Norwegian). In particular, we are looking forward to seeing school classes from Oslo that attend and interact with our researchers in various activities.
Researchers’ Night
For the more mature audience we would like to recommend Researchers’ Night (only in Norwegian), where two events are held in Oslo on Friday 28th of September. The Science Library welcomes you to “Researchers’ Night at the Space Station” with lectures about exoplanets and the origin of the universe.
The Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology hosts the event “Making Sense Together”, where they focus on being human. One of the speakers is Adam Rutherford, British geneticist and bestselling author (“A Brief History of Everyone Who Ever Lived”).
Cutting Edge
Cutting Edge is one of Norway’s biggest yearly research and technology events where the newest breakthroughs in research, the most captivating innovations and the most exciting startup companies made in Norway are presented.
On Tuesday 25 September, the University of Oslo, Inven2, Conventor and Oslo Science Park invites you to the launch of innovations and groundbreaking research findings. Here you will meet researchers, technologists, politicians, entrepreneurs, investors and students from many fields of expertise. 1400 people participated in the event last year; will we break that record this year?
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Torbjørn Røe Isaksen, will Open the Cutting Edge festival. Throughout the day, you get the chance to join debates and talks, visit exhibit spaces and the launch stage. This is also a great opportunity for career networking. See the programme schedule.
Matchmaking: meeting the industry
Researchers and PhD candidates at the University of Oslo and the Oslo University Hospital are especially invited to join the matchmaking event at Cutting Edge. Here, you will be matched with potential partners and can explore industrial cooperation possibilities. In addition, you will get a free pass for the entire programme at Cutting Edge.
This is a unique possibility to get to know the industry and the companies that are relevant in your fields of expertise. Through these effective and informal meetings, you can exchange experiences, possible collaborations and perhaps start the beginning steps of a partnership.
