Minutes Laboratory group meeting October 24th 2017

1. Information about the labs building process

Building the labs will start in spring 2018 and ready for use in autumn semester 2018.

We need a schedule for when this work will be done so that the research in the labs will not be affected by noise. It was suggested that sound proofing of the lab rooms should be done first in order to alleviate noise problems during the work period.

We need to update our overview of the equipment that we have, for instance where our eye trackers are at any given time.

2. Organization

Rene Hustler is responsible for the old EEG labs in the south wing.

Thomas and Anne-Kristin will be responsible for the two new EEG labs in the west wing.

Thomas is responsible for the new Social psychology lab in the west wing.

Julien will be responsible for the new developmental lab in the west wing.

Lotte is responsible for the childrens lab on the third floor.

Jon is responsible for the video analysis lab.

A new MovCam lab will be runned by Alexander (Musicology) in the west wing 1 floor.

3. The Scanners that we have

The Phillips Scanner at the intervention center: can be used by all.

The Siemens scanner, our new scanner. The LCBC scanner is probably already fully booked

A better coordination of the use of the scanners is needed.

Our use of the scanner at the Intervention Center is funded by the AVIT funding.

4. Research assistance

Everyone should send a list of their need for research assistance and equipment for 2018 to Tor. The list can also include your need for equipment in 2019.

5. Needs for equipment

MPLUS is a problem, because licences are given personally to one researcher, not the department as a whole. We are trying to get MPLUS into the software system and also a departmental licence.

When windows is upgraded and two people are working with two different versions of windows you will not be able to get back up of the files on both the new and old system.

The RITMO center will come with one data manager, 50 % funded by Departments of Musicology, Psychology and Informatics, and 50 % from the RCN. We will try to fund one more full time data manager.

There is a need for an engineer who knows a lot about labaratory. The challenge is to get an engineeer who stays for more than a couple of years.

It was suggested that the department should have such a permanent position.

It was also suggested that there should be an “ekspedisjon” service for the labs. You can send your needs for such a service to Tor.

6. Space – rental and building related costs

In RCN and EU funded research projects it is possible to get funding for leiested, which is the yearly depreciation of value of the equipment used.

We do not rent out the use of our labs commercially.

The RITMO center will come with considerable leiestedsmidler and overhead. This is favourable for the department, since external grants influences the amount of internal funding that all researchers benefit from.

We need to increase the awareness of research funding that has no overhead in it, for example funding from Helse Sør- Øst
