Call: UiO Growth House seed funding for innovative researchers – round I 2023

Do you have an innovative idea based on your research for a new product or service, but need funding to develop your early-stage technology or service further? Apply for seed funding from the UiO Growth House! Application deadline 14 March 2023.

Who can apply?

This call is aimed at applicants (faculty staff, clinicians, postdocs, and PhD students) who are (i) associated with a research group at the University of Oslo (UiO) and
(ii) have an innovative idea, or are working on an early-stage technology or service.

Available funding 

In 2023, the UiO Growth House dedicates NOK 1.5 M to this round of seed funding to support the development of innovative early-stage ideas – this means technologies or services that have not yet been taken up by UiO’s technology transfer office Inven2 (accepted DOFI), SPARK Norway, or an accelerator/incubator.

Each project team will work together with one of the Growth House`s innovation advisers to help realize the full potential of the project. All seed II projects additionally will be paired with a suitable mentor for further support. 

Seed I – NOK 50,000 

The funding can be used for e.g.: 

  • Key experiments to move your early-stage technology forward. 
  • External scientific services, e.g. contract research, manufacturing, computational services. 
  • Consulting services, e.g. market research, IP analysis. 

Seed II – NOK 200,000 (max) + mentoring (10 hours) 

The funding can be used for e.g.: 

  • Key experiments to move your early-stage technology forward. 
  • External scientific services, e.g. contract research, manufacturing, computational services. 
  • Consulting services, e.g. market research, IP analysis. 
  • Other costs and services as needed, based on a case-by-case basis.  

Evaluation criteria

All received applications will be evaluated by an internal panel of local innovation experts based on: 

  • Innovation potential  
  • Feasibility  
  • Benefit to society   
  • Coachability 

Reporting requirements 

Ideally, seed funding should be used within one year on activities that truly move the early-stage technology further along the development path. At the end of the funding period, the main applicant must submit a short report to the Growth House using our online reporting form
