A History of the Turkish Concept of Europe

About the project

How does Europe look when seen from the outside? This project aims to write a history of the Turkish concept of "Europe" and how this concept and those closely linked with it are given and how they are transformed through the processes referred to as Westernisation. It addresses the question by analysing Turkish and Ottoman texts through a long historical perspective, starting with the formation of the Ottoman state and tracing the concept up until the present.
