Department seminar. Gaurab Aryal is an Associate Professor at the Department of Economics, Washington University in St. Louis. He will present the paper: "Auctioning Annuities" (written with Eduardo Fajnzylber, Maria F. Gabrielli, Manuel Willington).

Tone Druglitrø is a researcher at the TIK Centre for Technology, Innovation and Culture at the University of Oslo. She has over several years been concerned with experimenting with care as an approach and tool for studying values in science and policy with a specific focus on animal research. Based upon a combination of archive studies, laboratory ethnographies, and document-oriented studies, her work has traced the historical development of “skilled care” as an expertise in science, and analyzed the convergence of biological standardization, conservation and technical care in public health. She has also published on “procedural care” in licensing systems. She is currently exploring versions of care in cod immunology together with Kristin Asdal (TIK).

MBA Hassan Njie at Institute of Health and Society will be defending the thesis “Towards universal health coverage: evidence generation to inform national health insurance scheme implementation in The Gambia” for the degree of PhD (Philosophiae Doctor).

Cand.med. Kjersti Nøkleby at Institute of Health and Society will be defending the thesis “Type 2 diabetes in general practice and outpatient clinics: Variations in care and intermediate outcomes” for the degree of PhD (Philosophiae Doctor).

Cand.med. Therese Torgersen Bigseth at Institute of Clinical Medicine will be defending the thesis “Low grade inflammation and soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor in schizophrenia: Exploring levels, clinical associations and effects of physical exercise” for the degree of PhD (Philosophiae Doctor).

Julie Hansen will discuss Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace and Eugene Vodolazkin's Laurus as examples of translingual literature.

Cand.med. Pia Jorde Løvgren at Institute of Clinical Medicine will be defending the thesis “Systematic recording and assessment of psychotic symptoms in forensic evaluations of criminal responsibility in Norway 2009-2018” for the degree of PhD (Philosophiae Doctor).

Department seminar. Lars Thorvaldsen is a Lecturer at the Department of Economics, University of Oslo. He will present the paper: "Reassessing the Tax Sensitivity of Debt in Multinational Corporations."

How do we read novels translingually? What strategies and literary techniques characterise multilingual literary texts? How does multilingual literature (re-)shape the canon? What metaphors do bilingual authors use to conceptualise multilingualism?

At this workshop, we will discuss multilingual writing from Eastern Europe from different theoretical and historical perspectives. 

In this lecture, Alexandre de Vitry (Sorbonne) will discuss the concept of brotherhood in literary history

M.Sc. Liv Bjerknes Taranrød at Institute of Health and Society will be defending the thesis “Next of kin to people with dementia attending farm-based daycare: Characteristics, experiences, and respite” for the degree of PhD (Philosophiae Doctor).

Fatima Reda (PhD Fellow, University of Oslo) will give a talk on how teachers and newly arrived Arabic-speaking students utilize digital tools during oral communication tasks in the classroom.
