UiO:Energy will fund educational summer research projects between April and October 2020 for 10 students enrolled in their last year of a bachelor program, or in their first year of a master-program at UiO. We now invite UiO researchers to suggest projects for one or two students per research group.

UiO:Energy will fund a number of summer research projects within the field of sustainable energy. Students currently enrolled in their last year of a bachelor program, a master program or a relevant professional degree program at the University of Oslo are eligible to apply.  The students selected for summer research projects will each receive a stipend of NOK 40 000. Application deadline: March 1 2021. From 17-21 August, the University of Bergen, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and UiO:Energy had the pleasure of gathering 31 PhD-students working within the fields of energy to the 2020 interdisciplinary summer school on flexible energy systems, NorRen.

For the first time, UiO: Energy announces funding for convergence environments within sustainable energy. An information meeting about this will be held – including researcher-speed-dating – on 15 September. Thereafter, the deadline for submitting a mandatory sketch is 30 October, while the final application deadline is expected to be 31 December.

Two funding opportunities had their deadlines before Christmas. For the first time it was possible to apply for UiO:Energy Thematic Research Groups (TRG), in addition there was the annual deadline for UiO:Energy seed funding.

How to achieve a just and sustainable green shift was the overall topic for the first day of UiO:Energy Forum 2019. During the two day conference, about 140 participants could enjoy 28 speakers from Norway and abroad, 10 student pitches and 5 panels.

The 2019 Norwegian Research School in Renewable Energy (NorRen) took place at Leangkollen in Asker from 17th to 21st of June. The summer school was organized by UiO:Energy in collaboration with the two Norweigan centres for environment-friendly energy research (FME centres) MoZEES and Bio4Fuels. The program was designed to be both interdisciplinary and interactive, with a mixture of expert talks, lectures and group work focusing on various aspects of sustainable transport.

- This trip has given me great opportunities to learn about international research on energy consumption and car use, and to present my own work within energy, transportation and sustainability transitions. I will continue to work towards a publication of the paper I presented. I am grateful for the funding and opportunities provided by UiO: Energy says Elisabeth M.C. Svennevik.

One in five people in the world still lack access to modern electricity. Is it possible to greatly improve energy access without jeopardizing the climate? Can we combine development with sustainability at a scale that truly matters? How can Africa avoid being left behind as “The Dark Continent”? These question where dicussed on the 11th and 12th of June when UiO:Energy organized a seminar on energy and development toghether with L’Institut français d’Oslo and The Norwegian Solar Energy Cluster.

The Chinese company Jinko Solar is currently the world’s largest producer of solar panels, and it manufactures the solar cells with the highest efficiency. Jinko Solar is also a key partner in the INTPART-project SiNorAPV: Sino-Norwegian Alliance in Photovoltaics, coordinated by Prof. Andrej Kuznetsov at the Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology (SMN), UiO. SiNorAPV is now looking for MSc- and PhD-students from UiO, NTNU, NMBU and UiA, who would like to spend a two-week internship this summer at the Jinko Solar factory near Shanghai.
