AppVolume Naming Standards

The idea behind the AppVolume Naming Standards

The reason why we need to have some naming standards is to avoid mess and duplication.

If you make an AppVolume with only one program which is not licensed to a limited number at UiO, like e.g. Firefox, etc. use the following standard:

  • Program Name and Version Name, e.g.: Firefox ESR 5.0

The idea is that then the package can be reused by the whole of UiO and everyone doesn't need to make their own package.

Faculty/Department Specific AppVolumes and LABs

If you have a program which uses a license server which belongs to your faculty/department or you will have a collection of programs in an AppVolume for a lab, make an AppVolume with a name in the format:  the faculty abbreviation such as: med, hf, mn, etc. followed by a -. What comes after the - whether it is a department or the name of a course, is completely up to you.

Example: mn-geo-geo42709
