Semester abroad

Parts of the study programme may be taken abroad. Some students will do field work abroad, others will take courses at a partner institution. Please contact the programme administration for further details about the possibilities of a period abroad.

Students will be encouraged to establish contacts with scholars from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, as well as relevant institutions in Europe and America, often based on the academic networks of the teachers and/or exchange agreements between the University of Oslo and relevant universities.

Students may take parts of their courses abroad, primarily in the 2nd semester, and they may spend time abroad during the writing of the master thesis. The Department of Culture Studies and Oriental Languages (IKOS) has established connections with universities in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan which allow master students to include a stay in these areas with the purpose of, for instance, following Chinese classes, establishing contact with scholars, collecting material at libraries and archives, etc. This is a unique chance to combine a master study in Norway with studies (and further language training) in a Chinese-speaking environment. Courses from this exchange programme may be accepted as courses in the second semester.
