Programme structure

New programme structure for students attending this study programme from fall 2018

The Master’s programme’s duration is two years and consists of courses and thesis work. All students must take the course MAT4500 - Topology during the first semester, unless they have taken the course MAT3500 - Topology. Further choice of courses depends on which specialisation one finds interesting.

If you choose a short thesis (30 ECTS credits), you will take courses during the first three semesters of the programme and work on your thesis in the fourth semester.

If you choose a longer thesis (60 ECTS credits), you will take courses during the first semester and commence on the thesis already during the second or third semester, depending on which specialisation you choose. This is something you discuss with your supervisor. Examples of specialisations can be found here (Norwegian only).

Recognition of Master courses from former education

If you are admitted to the Masters Programme and you have completed Master courses outside the University of Oslo, you may apply to have these courses recognised as part of your degree. Please contact the Department of Mathematics for more information.
