Evaluation

All courses and programs must have an evaluation system in place to create and ensure high quality in the respective study offerings.

Course evaluation should be carried out for all courses every time they are offered. Course evaluation should function both as a dialogue during the semester and for the development and improvement of the course over time.

Implementation at ISS

A standardized evaluation form (in Norwegian and English) has been developed by the Head of studies at ISS.

  1. Information and deadline come from the Head of Studies.
  2. Course conveners publish a link to the form in the Canvas room for their courses, and it is recommended to allocate time during class for conducting the evaluation.
  3. Course conveners receive completed evaluation forms back for their course and use this to write an evaluation report. See the section on evaluation reports.

Alternatively, the course convener can design their evaluation form/process. Note: Student advisors should not design evaluations, analyze them, or write the report itself.

Evaluation report

Course conveners should submit a brief evaluation report (300-700 words) based on the conducted evaluation.

This report should include:

1. the most important feedback received.

2. any adjustments made.

3. opportunities for developing the course.

The following points should also be commented on:

  • assessment of the coherence between the course's intended learning outcomes
  • teaching methods and organization
  • the course's learning environment

The final report should

1. Be made available to the students taking the course, for example, via Canvas or in a lecture.

2. Be published on the programme evaluation page by the study advisor. The study advisor should not spend a lot of time requesting and reminding course convenor to submit the reports. The study advisor records the credit (fixed rate) in the hourly account upon receiving the evaluation report. The evaluation report must be prepared for publishing online.
