The contribution reflects on the application of the subsidiarity principle in international human rights law, in particular, in international human rights review procedures.

Subsidiarity has received much attention in international human rights law. Some have characterized it as a structural principle or as inherent in international human rights law. The principle has also been named as being of major importance in the further reform for the European Court of Human Rights.

This paper will attempt to sketch the principle´s scope of application in international human rights law. Moreover, the contribution will identify, which particular form of the principle suits the demands of human rights law.
