President Ali Abdullah Saleh has made a secret alliance with the Shi'ite Houthi movement in order to seize power and impede the formation of a new federal Yemen based on the outcome of the national dialogue. The alliance between Saleh-Houthis resulted in a military coup on 21 September 2014. Which forced Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi to invite Saudi Arabia to intervene militarily in Yemen against the Houthi military coup, causing widespread civil war. Saleh and the Houthis have committed horrific abuses against human rights in this absurd war.
