Welcome to the autumn 2023 seminar for early career researchers at KHM! Invitations are being sent to all post docs and PhD candidates at the museum. The seminar is also open to other interested early stage reserachers working at KHM.
Open Science: Extreme sport, social movement or just common sense?
Open science is increasingly impacting and defining the research landscape of practice, funding, and career development.
From being primarily a concern with exorbitant publishing fees restricting access to research articles, open science has evolved into discussions about ethics, a way of thinking and working and the active involvement of non-scientists at all stages of the research process. It is no longer just about open access to the end-result in text and research outputs should now be shared as widely as possible as soon as possible. Reflecting this, the European Commission, a main funding body, has popularized the slogan “as open as possible, but as closed as necessary” in relation to data management.
What does this mean for early stage researchers? How do you, can you, may you and would you benefit from navigating this in your work?
