LAT2408 – Roman Fiction
Schedule, syllabus and examination date
Course content
We read 60-75 pages of Roman fiction (Seneca, Petronius, Apuleius). In addition, you are expected to read supplementary literature for in-dept-study and/or orientation.
Learning outcome
After you have completed this course, you will:
- be able to translate the texts from the curriculum into Norwegian (or English)
- have full command of the central vocabulary in the texts
- be able to discuss rhetorical, linguistical and stylistical aspects of the texts
- be able to interpret the texts with an eye to historical, cultural or other aspects
Admission to the course

Formal prerequisite knowledge
LAT1001 – Innføring i latin I and LAT1002 – Innføring i latin II or equivalent.
Recommended previous knowledge
We recommend that you have passed all Latin text courses at the 1000 level before you sign up for text courses at the 2000 level.
Teaching
14 double sessions of seminars. We expect you to prepare for the seminars and participate actively.
In order for you to be allowed to sit for the final examination, the following compulsory tuition activity must be approved by the teacher:
- midterm qualification test
Examination
written exam (4 hours).
In order for you to qualify for the final examination, all compulsory tuition activities must be approved by the teacher.
Examination support material
No examination support material is allowed.
Language of examination
You may write your examination paper in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.
