Periodic Evaluation of KULH1404 Spring 08

Teachers: Line Esborg and Kyrre Kverndokk

35 students were registered and 25 attended lectures and seminars throughout the semester, which is fairly good.

The majority of the students were exchange students with academic backgrounds in Economics, Biology etc and attended KULH1404 primarily in order to learn something about their host country.

The students were seemingly less interested in the more critical-analytical aspects this course stresses. There was a lack of accordance between the course’s learning outcome and the students’ expectations. The course should be revised in light of these experiences.

Exam: 28 delivered term assignments; of which 13 failed. The results suggest that English not necessarily is a lingua franca and that the course presupposes preliminary knowledge that the students do not have.
25 students participated in the written exam. The results showed a C average. 4 candidates received F (fail).

Due to critical evaluation from students as well as teachers, this course will not be offered again in its present form.
