Course content

The course is offered in connection with various research activities, visits by guest researchers, the arranging of research seminars or conferences, as well as planned and ongoing research.

Spring 2014:
The course is offered in connection with the Research Seminar in Tibetan and Himalayan Studies and visits by guest researchers as well as planned and ongoing research. 

The course has a reading list consisting of ethnographies from the Himalayas, Tibet and Mongolia.

The students will be able to specialize in current research and will receive supervision on specific themes and in making individual reading lists.

Learning outcome

Students will acquire knowledge of current topics and reseach in history of religion.
The level of teaching will be close to that of reseach, and prior knowledge of the topic of the course is required.

Prerequisites

Formal prerequisite knowledge

Acceptance as a Master student.

Recommended previous knowledge

Bacherlor's Degree with major in History of Religion.

Teaching

The class is organized as a supervised reading course.

The students have to hand in an outline of the essay they plan to write, including a list of sources, in order to be qualified for the essay exam. This obligatory assignment is graded 'pass' or 'fail'.

Examination

Term paper, 8-10 pages (18-22 000 characters including spaces, 12 pt, 1.5 lines).

The obligatory first draft must be submitted by the set deadline and passed in order for the student to sit exam.

Use of sources and citation

You should familiarize yourself with the rules that apply to the use of sources and citations. If you violate the rules, you may be suspected of cheating/attempted cheating.

It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
