Message from Malcolm concerning the take-home exam

Please note that the take-home exam requires answering Question 1 and one question from Question 2. The "guidelines" for how to structure a take-home exam (which are contained in the document "Information about the take home exam") are more relevant for answering one of the questions in Question 2 rather than Question 1.

Please note also that in Question 2(a), the 'State of Elan' should read 'State of Nadroj'.

Assignment for Sept. 14th:

Please read SC Resolution 1379, the HRC Case, the CESCR concluding observations, and the UPR report- Analyze the thematic scope of the document-is it focused or broad? What is its purpose? Are there concrete proposals, or is the language vague? Are the goals capable of achievement- Is this capable of implementation, or primarily symbolic? Who are the principal actors in terms of accountability? How would you enforce this document? Are there legitimacy problems with respect to the recommendations?

Regarding Lecture 2, August 31

On the group presentations for this Tuesday, we will need two members of each of the five groups to present. One to present the case and decision and the other to present the views of the group on whether the decision was right or not. The group presentation by the presenters should last a total of 5-7 minutes (i.e., 3 minutes each approximately) to allow for questions and comments from the class. Students who don't present Tuesday will be asked to present next time around.

For students who will come for the first time on Tuesday, you are free to listen and then join a study group for the remainder of the course.
