There will be one obligatory homework assignment which should be handed in by email to finnr@fys.uio.no as a pdf-file attachment before May 1. It should be 1-5 pages long and give a report on a modern research problem involving statistical mechanics. A very useful place to find inspiration is to look up papers at arXiv.org.
