Hi, peeps!

This week's group sessions are dedicated to working on the obligs, so come if you need help :D. I will not be introducing anything new this week, but next week we will talk about synchronization and look at the precode for oblig 3.

If you are done with both obligs you can still come and:

  1. Discuss your oblig 2 results with your fellow students! I have been reading a lot of your reports, and there are many interesting insights and great solutions, so you have a lot to both teach to and learn from each other. Sharing is caring :D.
  2. Catch up on the exercises. My post on the prefetch exercise from last week is feeling lonely, so write your own solution and post your results so we can discuss!

Looking forward to seeing you again!

There is also a synchronization sketch - one that I did last year and would have liked to do this year also, but, alas, it requires physical presence. Instead, you got the Lego version (see lecture video first hour) based on the ...

Hi everyone!

The group sessions next week will, in addition to you getting help with your obligs, include a little demonstration about why writing cache friendly code is so important. This is very relevant for oblig 2 and is why I wanted to give you a teaser of the difference it can make before oblig 2 is given out next week. But don't worry, you will still have time to work on your oblig!

For those of you who are done with oblig 1, you can still come to the group session and work on the exercises that were planned for this week (Exercises Week 3 - Semaphores).

Shiela :)

Hi, everybody!

My name is Shiela, and I will be your group teacher this semester. I'm really looking forward to meeting and seeing all of you! :D.

The first 4 weeks of group sessions will be digital meetings on Zoom. I chose 4 weeks as a start so that you guys can have at least some sort of stability and predictability in this situation. However, as there are 130 students taking this course and only 2 group sessions, there is a good chance the meetings will be digital for the rest of the semester.

This is why I think it's important to create a digital space where we are all comfortable asking questions not only to me, but to each other as well. I have therefore created a small 'Let's get to know each other Menti'. At the end there is a question where we will all show an object to the camera, so be prepared :D.

The general form of the group sessions will be like this:

Great that you want to learn  about how to design & make parallel programs run not only effectively but also efficiently multicore machines :-)

This course is for those that believe in Learning by Doing - you will be doing a lot of programming - and get to see your programs in action actually performing :-)

The first lecture is Thursday, January 14th, 2021 12:15 - 14:00 - it will be in English.

Due to Corona-restrictions, it will be via Zoom (details will be sent out later).

The lectures will be recorded and the recordings will be published on the course web site.

Your main entry point for information about the course is the course website - keep an eye on it - especially the Messages :-)

Group 2 has been moved to Tuesday 10:15-12:00 and has switched room to Assembler.

We're aware that the 'headline' of group 2 still says Wednesday, but this should hopefully correct itself by the end of the day.
