KJM5730 – Water and soil chemistry

Course content

The course provides a thorough description of the natural chemical processes and equilibrium systems that govern the mobility of chemical compounds in water and soil. Emphasis is given to complex equilibrium systems and to speciation of the elements in the environment.

Learning outcome

The student shall obtain a fundamental understanding of environmental chemistry and use this knowledge to conduct rudimentary environmental risk assessments of emissions of chemical toxins to the environment.

Teaching

The course is held as an intensive course over 15 lectures/seminars as well as 1 day fieldwork and 1 lab day. The course will be cancelled if less than 3 students have signed up for examination at the registration deadline.

Access to teaching

A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.
