The Group Project Task

You will be divided in groups of 2-3 people and each group will research a topic (different topic for each group). Use publically available documents e.g. on the internet and in the library. We have provided links to a number of useful sites on the KJM 5900 main page, but also try to find your own! Each group shall produce an essay of about 2-3 pages which will be posted on the KJM 5900 web-page. We will have a mid-term gathering where each group presents their topic. The gathering will be in week 38 (13-18 September).

Topic 1: Glenn Seaborg and the Actinides

Seaborg, father of the Actinides and Nobel Laurate, is one of the biggest chemist ever to have lived. Tell the story with emphasis on the impact his work had on our knowledge of radioactivity!

Topic 2: Nuclear Power in the Future

Alternative ways of exploring nuclear power: Can accelerator driven sources of neutrons replace todays nuclear reactors? What will be the benefit and what about nuclear waste? Investigate this topic!

Topic 3: Helth consequences of the Cernobyl accident

Assess the health consequences and claims of such consequences of the Cernobyl accident.
