I dette emnet vil vi arbeide med spørsmål som disse: Hvordan kan en begrepsfeste og forstå ’det politiske’? Hvordan kan en forstå staten? Og ganske særlig: Hvorfor er det nødvendig å hevde at vi bør søke å forstå politisk liv og statsbyggingsprosesser ved hjelp av etnografi? Og hvilke ulike strategier for etnografisk arbeid med politikk og stat kan vi se nedfelt i kurslitteraturen?
