Seminar with Steve Woolgar May 11th

We are happy to announce that Professor Steve Woolgar will hold a seminar at TIK on 11 May at 13.15.

Steve Woolgar is a Professor at the Department of Thematic Studies - Technology and Social Change, Linköping University, and a Senior Research Fellow (part-time) at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford. In the talk, he will discuss the limits of the use of the slogan "It could be otherwise" (ICBO)  in "hard cases" within the STS by drawing on the case of Jimmy Savile. The ICBO slogan characterises a large and varied range of provocations in social sciences and humanities both within and beyond Science and Technology Studies (STS) for disturbing, unsettling, troubling, destabilising, and deflating pretensions to certainty, grandiose theorising, abstractions and conceptual complacency. But are there limits to it when it comes to really "hard cases" like Jimmy Savile?

Time and place: Wednesday 11 May 2016, 13:15 - 15:00, Eilert Sundt Building, TIK Room 551, 5th floor
