City Connection
The project is done in collaboration with the Agency for Urban Environment in Oslo Municipality. Key staff contact is Gaute Lerstad Thorsnes, from the department of mobility.
The project connects to the Strategic plan for Hovinbyen, and the strategic plan VPOR Hasle og Valle Hovin. The project addresses proposals to open Hovinbekken as a blue-green structure, and aims to increase the use of sustainable means of transport in Hovinbyen.
Project Context
The project is based on two identified problems from the strategic plans, participation insights and the group’s experiences of Økern. Firstly, barriers make it difficult to navigate and walk. Secondly, there is a lack of attractiveness at Økern.
Project Description
Bekk to the Future is a temporary solution to the identified problems, using Hovinbekken as a connective structure that helps people navigate and spark a changed perception of Økern. The project is a reaction to the long time frames of development at Økern, and aims to invite people to explore and get familiar with Økern during the transformation.
The project is a collaboration between the student project group, the Agency for Urban Environment, Oslo Elveforum and Økern Sentrum ANS.
Project Outcomes
The project resulted in a route between the uncovered parts of Hovinbekken at Hasle and Risløkka, marked by blue circles to create a practical, walkable connection across Økern. Posters along the path introduce people to the unique spaces and the history of Økern to give the area a sense of place.
