Studies

Shorter and longer stays at UiO for Master and PhD-candidates from partner institutions will involve multiple administrative levels and should follow existing routines and deadlines for student mobility, guest researchers and admission for degree programs.

It is important that the project involve administrative colleagues with experience with incoming international students and which are well known with routines and deadline for ensuring affordable housing, visa/residence permit (UDI), payment of scholarships etc. Administrative staff should also have access to Felles Studentsystem (FS).

Admission for Master degree programs at UiO

As only a small number of projects are planning to host master students for full degrees at UiO, the central Admissions Office has taylored a routine which will be communicated to the relevant projects. The projects must coordinate the admission process with its South partners, Departmental coordinator of the master program and the Admissions Office.

The International student reception will assist the students with housing and visa/residende permit.

Master students will receive a scholarship of 11 000 NOK per month (equal to Lånekassen).

The students will have to pay the semester fee. 

Admission for PhD (full degree) at UiO

PhDs that are fully funded by NORHED II may be registered as students at UiO. Student status will give PhDs access to affordable housing (SiO), access to health services (SiO) and student discount at Ruter (if the PhD is under 30 years of age). Student status and housing will only be accessible if the PhDs and projects complies with the given deadlines and regulations for student housing. To be granted student housing, the student must come to Oslo at the start of the semester (aug/jan) and the minimum stay is 2 months.

Admission for PhD programmes is administered by the Faculty administration/research support. It is important that the project, at an early stage, are in contact with administrative colleagues in order to facilitate the admission of these candidates. 

PhD's will receive a scholarship of 20 000 NOK per month (equal to NFR). 

 

Visiting students (master/PhD) to UiO

Master:

Master students visiting UiO for a semester or more, must be registered in accordance with the deadlines below. This is of great importance in order to issue documents for visa applications, facilitate housing arrangement and to have scholarship payments available upon arrival.

Guarantee deadline for visa/residence permit (UDI) 1 December 1 July
Scholarship payments 4-6 weeks pre arrival 4-6 weeks pre arrival

PhD:

PhDs that are fully funded by NORHED II may be registered as students at UiO. Student status will give PhDs access to affordable housing (SiO), access to health services (SiO) and student discount at Ruter (if the student is under 30 years of age). Student status and housing will only be accessible if the PhDs and projects complies with the given deadlines and regulations for student housing. To be granted student housing, the student must come to Oslo at the start of the semester (aug/jan) and the minimum stay is 2 months. Knutepunktet/International Student Reception is to point of contact for questions regarding visa and housing for PhDs with a student status.   

PhD's will receive a scholarship of 20 000 NOK per month (equal to NFR). 

For other PhDs and guest researches, the main point of contact for housing, visa etc. will be the International Staff Mobility Office (ISMO) 

Outbound UiO-students

UiO-students should be registered as outbound exchange students in accordance with existing routines for exchange/field work.
