The role of the Dean

The nomination deadline to submit your candidates for the election of the Dean will expire on Monday 15 August. True to tradition, we have interviewed the incumbent Dean about the role to help inspire potential candidates to stand for election. Read the interview here in Norwegian.

The Anders Jahre Award for Medical Research goes to Harald Stenmark

Bildet kan inneholde: se, hånd, muskel, polo skjorte, gest.The 2022 Anders Jahre Award for Medical Research, with a prize of NOK 1 million, goes to Professor and Head of Centre, Harald Stenmark. He receives the award for his groundbreaking studies on processes in the cell membrane and how the incorrect regulation of such processes leads to the development of cancer. The Anders Jahre Award for Young Researchers is shared between two researchers from Copenhagen and Aarhus. The 2022 award ceremony takes place at the University Aula 6 pm on Thursday 3 November. Yuichi Mori
4.7 Million Euro for new UiO-led EU-Project

Dr. Yuichi Mori from the Clinical Efficacy Research Group will lead a major new project that seeks to identify solutions for the use of artificial intelligence in clinical medicine. The aim is to improve diagnostics and mortality associated with colon cancer.

Hela SoltaniNew Head of Administration at IMB

Hela Soltani has been appointed the new Head of Administration at the Department of Basic Medical Sciences. She was previously head of the section for joint administrative services. Head of Department, Lene Frost Andersen, is delighted that Hela has accepted the offer. “Hela is thoroughly familiar with IMB and I look forward to working with her to further develop the department over the coming years,” Frost Andersen says.


Studies

First external campus at the University of Oslo for medical students

Going forward, medical students will be able to spend two years of their studies in Southern Norway. On 15 June, it was decided that the University of Oslo’s first external campus will be established at Sørlandet Hospital. Read the full article.

  • Applications now open for the School of Health Innovation’s course 2 Entrepreneurship in Healthcare. The application deadline is 26 June and the course will be running this autumn.  PhD candidates, postdoctoral fellows and clinicians who have previously completed the School of Health Innovation’s first course, Health Innovation and Entrepreneurship, are invited to apply. The course, which is a “micro MBA”, will be delivered in collaboration with BI Norwegian Business School. Each admitted student will be assigned an experienced mentor.

  • 18 August 16:30–18:00. Life Science Growth House, the University of Oslo, the Pharmaceutical Industry in Norway (LMI), Oslo Science City and Innovation Norway invite you to a discussion at Clarion Hotel Tyholmen during Arendals week: From research to production – Norway as a home for the healthcare industry. The potential for value creation in the health sector has received increased attention in Norway and reports over the past five years point to significant growth. Institute of Clinical Medicine: People with mild PHPT are unlikely to need surgery in Norwegian by Elin Martine Doeland. It appears that it is not necessary to operate on patients with the mild variant of the disease PHPT, where blood calcium levels are only slightly elevated.

 

OlweusInstitute of Clinical Medicine: Emergency solutions used by starving cancer cells can provide new points of attack for immunotherapy in Norwegian by Elin Martine Doeland. When cancer cells “starve”, they find emergency solutions for survival. This could provide the immune system with new possibilities for attacking the cancer.
