Host, co-host, alternative host and UiO external host

Host

All meetings/lectures/events in Zoom must have a host. The one who sets up a meeting, is by default host.

The host has some duties and rights that the other meeting participants do not have. The host can, among other things, make others participants a host or co-host, let in participants from a waiting room, share screen / show a presentation and turn on/off audio and video for other participants. The host is also the only one who can end a meeting for all participants.

Co-host

If you are going to have a larger meeting / lecture / event, you should consider whether you want to appoint one or more co-hosts. A co-host helps in the meeting and can, among other things, follow the chat and look for participants asking to speak (raise hand), as well as let participants in from the waiting room (if used). Make arrangements with the person or persons you want as co-hosts in advance. Once the meeting is underway, it is easy to turn participants into co-hosts.

Alternative host

If you are inviting to a meeting that you yourself are not going to attend, or if you are unsure whether you will have time to open the meeting or something else that may cause you to not be in the meeting when the participants arrive, you can enter an Alternative host for the meeting.

You enter Alternative Host in the settings when you create the meeings. The selection is under Advanced options. In the field for Alternative host, enter the username of the person you want to be Alternative host, followed by @uio.no (example: username@uio.no. Not the e-mail address) Only UiO users can be Alternative host

UiO external host / guest lecturer as host

For security reasons, lectures and meetings at the UiO should be arranged in UiO Zoom. This is a licensed full version of Zoom where privacy and security are better than in the free version of Zoom, and UiO has made key settings to further improve security. UiO external users, such as guest lecturers and others, may still be host for a meeting/lecture.
