Pay extra attention to problem 7.1 from Sethna's book. It really tests your understanding of the different statistics and ensembles. When you are able to solve this problem you will be well on your way to a good grip of these essential parts of the curriculum.
Problem set 08
We will also be assigning problems from the book Statistical Mechanics: Entropy, Order Parameters, and Complexity, by James P. Sethna (a local copy is linked here) and from past exams.
For the session on 11 March do problems 7.1 and 7.2 from Sethna's book, problem 7.10 from Yuri's booklet and problem 3 from the 2005 exam.
