Mandatory assignment 1 has an error. ANSYS provides a solution to the system, but this is by assuming it has a rigid connection at node 2. In order to have a non-singular matrix, restrain x-deflection at node 1.

Hello, and welcome to the course. The first lecture is today and we shall start with bar elements. For this course some background knowledge in mathematics is recommended. Appendix A in the book by Cook et. al. gives a summary of the necessary background knowledge you are expected to know.
