Who needs a WebID user?

To gain access to UiO webservices, you must give a user name and password. Previously, those who administered a service could only give access to persons with a Feide or UiO user name and password. With WebID, persons without a Feide or UiO user name can also gain access. Such external persons may, for example, be researchers at foreign universities who are to create and edit websites in Vortex and UiO. The external person receives an invitation to create a WebID user and the administrator at UiO can give this user access in the same way as UiO users.

Note: Not all internet services at UiO support WebID.

You need a WebID user if ...

• ... you do not have a user account at the University of Oslo.
• ... you do not have a user account at an institution that is part of the Feide collaboration.
• ... the service you wish to use supports the use of WebID.

You do not need a WebID user if ...

• ... you already have a Feide or UiO user account. You use this if you wish to create a group in WebID or invite others to create a WebID user.
