There will be a postponed digital home exam in STK2130 this year. The exam will take place on Thursday August 19th, 09.00-13.00. Make sure that you check out the Inspera page in good time before the exam, so you know that you have everything under control.

In case you have questions during the exam, you can contact the lecturer by email arne@math.uio.no. In order to get the fastest response we recommend that you submit your questions between 10:00 and 11:00. Thus, it may be a good idea to read through all the problems and have your questions ready by 10:00.

As you know, there will be a digital home exam in STK2130 this year. The exam will take place on Friday June 4th, 15.00-19.00. Make sure that you check out the Inspera page in good time before the exam, so you know that you have everything under control.

The contents of the exam will be similar to previous exams, both with respect to the amount of work and the difficulty of the questions. This year, however, all available notes and books are permitted aids during the exam. As a preparation for the exam we strongly recommend that you try to solve previous exams. In general, the following guidelines apply in courses at the Department of Mathematics: 
- The examination lasts 4 hours. In addition, you will have an extra 30 minutes to scan and upload your PDF.

Some additional exercise solutions from Chapter 7 and Chapter 10 will be posted in the Schedule for the Exercise sessions within the next week. These exercise solutions will be posted on the May 10th lecture, since this is the last scheduled exercise session (due to the Norwegian constitution day on May 17th).

There was an error in Exercise 5.12 c) (and a continuation error in d) - the methodology in d) is correct, but not the actual answer due to the error in c) ). This has been corrected in an additional note which has been uploaded in the Schedule for the Exercise sessions (see the March 8th lecture).

Yet another error has been discovered in the mandatory assignment. In the stationary distribution given in Problem 2d the index of the last probability should be 2, not 1. An updated version of the assignment can be found here. The LaTeX code for the updated version can be found here. We apologise for this error!

In Problem 2 of the mandatory assignment we need to assume that the probability that the inhabitants vote NO, i.e., beta, is less than 1.

Moreover, to avoid unrealistic cases we also assume that the probability that a revolution breaks out, i.e., alpha, as well as the probability that a coup d'état breaks out, i.e., gamma, are both less than 1. An updated version of the mandatory assignment can be found here, and the corresponding LaTeX-code can be found here. In the updated version of the assignment the new assumption is added at the end of the paragraph preceding subproblem 2a.

Regarding the requirements for passing the mandatory assignment, we do not use a fixed percentage. Instead, the assignments will be evaluated based on the overall impression. As a rule of thumb, you must have answered at least 2/3 of the questions correctly to pass. At the same time you should try to answer all questions as well as you can.

We need to appoint a student representative for the course. There is typically very little or no work associated with being a student representative. However, if the students have issues regarding the lectures or exercises, the student representative can forward questions to the lecturers.

Due to the pandemic, we ask that anyone interested in becoming the student representative to send an email to Arne Bang Huseby. The first one to do so will be appointed, so do not hesitate! The deadline February 20th.

Unfortunately, the exercises are still slightly out of sync with the lectures (caused by exercises being on Mondays and lectures on Wednesday/Thursday). To fix this, we are shifting the exercises by one more week. The schedule is updated accordingly.

Until further notice the lectures in STK2130 will be digital. On Wednesdays there will be lectures on Zoom 09:15-10:00. These lectures will briefly summarize the main topics of the weeks. See Canvas or contact Arne Bang Huseby for more information. In addition to this we will publish complete video lectures (in Norwegian) and lecture notes (in English). The video clips and lecture notes will be available from the schedule page.
